Sommelier Hand-made Collection

The collection that changed glassware forever: Sommeliers was the world’s first wine glass collection featuring shapes designed specifically for wine enjoyment.

This design revolution was created by 9th generation Claus J. Riedel in 1958, who perfected glass design to its essence: bowl, stem and base. Thin-blown and unadorned, Claus was the first in history to recognize the effect of shapes on the perception of alcoholic beverages. His work has influenced and changed the appearance of stemware forever.

Claus J. Riedel worked with experienced tasters and discovered that wine enjoyed from specifically designed glasses showed more depth and better balance than when served in generic glasses. He designed each glass to adhere to the Bauhaus design principle of form follows function, tailoring its shape to the characteristics of the wines it was designed for.

The creation of Sommeliers signaled the beginning of RIEDEL’s dominance of the global wine glass market. The glass collection covers a variety of different shapes for wines, champagne, and spirits.

Sommeliers is handmade in crystal glass.

Veritas Collection

The revolutionary series RIEDEL Veritas debuted in 2014 to set the standard for glassware yet again.

10th generation Georg J. Riedel challenged his Weiden factory Chief Engineer Franz Schmid and his world-class technicians to execute the finest and lightest machine-blown glasses ever made. The brief was that not only should the RIEDEL Veritas range be visually stunning and a delight to hold, but it should also be price competitive against handmade products from low-cost manufacturing countries.

The spectacular result is RIEDEL Veritas, lighter and finer while maintaining dishwasher safety, break resistance and being suitable for long-term daily use at home. Riedel’s technicians accomplished their task with excellence; creating a wine glass collection for the 21st century.

Drawing on 60 years of wine experience and expertise, RIEDEL Veritas is a grape-varietal specific collection designed to enhance the enjoyment of fine wines.

The collection also offers several other firsts for the RIEDEL brand. As well as the classic RIEDEL shapes for Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Riesling and Viogner, the collection also includes two glasses for each Shiraz and Pinot Noir, for both Old World and New World styles. RIEDEL Veritas also launched the now infamous Champagne Wine Glass, an aroma-driven alternative to the conventional flute.

Performance Collection

With three generations of experience in creating functional, grape varietal specific glassware, RIEDEL Performance is the result of 10th and 11th generations Georg and Maximilian Riedel’s drive to continually improve on what has come before.

This technologically advanced collection is the first RIEDEL series to feature bowls with a light optic impact. Detailed research by the RIEDEL family, aimed at improving the organoleptic wine experience, revealed that increasing the inner surface area of the glass had a positive impact on the perception of the bouquet and flavour of the wine.

This unique optical effect is not only visually pleasing but also has a positive impact on the perception of the wine’s bouquet and flavour, allowing a better experience of every aroma and subtle nuance.

Consisting of seven lightweight, durable and dishwasher-safe shapes, RIEDEL Performance glasses are executed by machine in sparkling crystal glass.

With fine stems and large stable bases, the range also includes new bowl shapes for Cabernet, Chardonnay and Riesling that, when combined with the optic effect, deliver ultimate wine enjoyment. RIEDEL Performance is a must-have glass collection for all wine lovers.

RIEDEL Performance is produced by machine in lead-free crystal glass and sold in sets of two.

Vinum Collection

Vinum is RIEDEL’s basic grape varietal specific series. It was created by 10th generation glassmaker Georg J. Riedel to ensure every wine lover could afford greater wine enjoyment.

The series was designed on Sommeliers, the 1973 collection by Claus J. Riedel, the ninth generation of the family-run company. The Sommeliers range was the first wine-friendly and unadorned wine glass collection, with glass bowl shapes based on a wine’s character.

In 1986, his son Georg presented a further innovation that fundamentally altered wine glass culture: varietal specific glassware, produced by machine to reduce their cost significantly.

Developed with great passion and based on Georg’s well-founded specialist knowledge, Vinum has become RIEDEL’s best-selling glassware series. The series is produced by machine in lead-free crystal glass and sold in sets of two.

Bar Collection

For 50 years Riedel has been the leader in grape specific, wine friendly glassware. The same concept was applied to the spirit glasses. The world’s most renowned spirit experts participated in extensive tasting workshops. The tasters analyzed the effect of shapes, size and rim diameters on each beverage to create instruments that express the individual character and originality of the beverage.

Riedel Bar brings this collection of superior spirits glasses together for the ultimate home bar and features the most popular fortified wines and spirits. Each glass is finely tuned to increase the enjoyment of spirits by showing the unique character of the beverage; highlighting the tempting fruitiness and de-emphasizing the evidence of alcohol on the nose and palate.

Bar Drink-Specific and Tumbler Collections

The RIEDEL Tumbler Collection presents the ‘must-have’ glasses for all cocktail and spirits lovers.

Working with nostalgia for retro, heavy-based glasses, this series offers a range of stunning designs for barware connoisseurs. Discover the versatility of these stylish yet traditional glasses for drinks enjoyment.

The designs from the RIEDEL Tumbler Collection are inspired by the glamorous Art Nouveau period, and their stylish decoration presents a contrast to the brand’s regular aesthetic of purist, unadorned wine glasses. Each offers a range of sized glasses, accounting for a variety of drinks and cocktails at home.

All RIEDEL tumblers are executed in sparkling crystal glass and are dishwasher safe, making them suitable for both professional and home use.

Wine “O” Tumbler

In 2004, Maximilian Riedel caught the attention of the wine and tabletop industries with the introduction of his “O” Wine Tumbler series, an innovative collection of varietal specific stemless wine glasses.

“The “O” glass has delighted many and outraged a few,” said Maximilian. “People were quick to embrace a glass that offered all the enjoyment that RIEDEL is famous for yet was more casual, easy to use, wash and store and added a playful element to the wine and spirits experience.”

This series has now become one of RIEDEL’s best selling, and its success is easy to understand. Contemporary and chic, it is perfect for those who crave elegant yet uncomplicated designs for everyday use. It is a series that invites contact and intimacy while raising eyebrows.

The “O” collection began for wine and has grown to include thirteen different glass designs, including six varietally-specific wine glass shapes, plus a glass for sparkling wine, water, saké, martini, and spirits.

When asked why a glass for spirits, Maximilian Riedel explained, “I enjoy Port and spirits after dinner or as the evening winds down, and conversation deepens. I love the way you can roll the glass in your hand – it’s almost contemplative.”

“O” what will RIEDEL think of next?

The “O” Wine Tumbler series is produced by machine in lead-free crystal glass and sold in sets of two.
